Mohammad Saba’aneh is a Palestinian cartoonist and caricaturist who uses the ninth art as a tool of resistance and testimony of the Palestinian struggle. Born in Jenin and residing in Ramallah, Saba’aneh has always intertwined his art with political activism, depicting the reality of a people at war without ever straying from his land. With his bold style and the irony of caricature, he has been able to represent the tragedies and daily injustices that afflict Palestine.
A member of Cartoon Movement since 2009, he has dedicated his career to visual journalism, collaborating with Al-Hayat al-Jadida, the official daily newspaper of the Palestinian Authority. His cartoons consistently carry political narratives that depict the everyday hardships faced by Palestinians under occupation. His commitment aims to give voice to Palestine, seeking to influence international public opinion.
In 2017, he received the Prix d’Or at the Marseille International Cartoon Festival for his courage in confronting a difficult context. In 2021, he published his first comic, “Power Born of Dreams: My Story is Palestine,” considered the first Palestinian comic. Translated into several languages, his work tells Palestine through the eyes of those who live it.
In 2023, he organized the first collective exhibition of Palestinian comics and displayed one of his murals at the United Nations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, a symbolic act that brought the Palestinian cause to international visibility. “Every cartoon I create is a small battle, a fight against the invisibility of our cause. Comics are our way of resisting, of telling the world that we exist, that we are alive, and that Palestine will never be forgotten,” he stated. Through his work, Mohammad Saba’aneh continues to tell Palestine as a story of resistance and dignity, using his talent in the service of freedom and justice.
