Amer Shomali
Amer Shomali is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, film, digital media, installation, and comics. His practice explores the visual language of the Palestinian struggle, with a focus on revolutionary iconography.
His artworks are held in major public and private collections, including the British Museum, the Arab World Institute, and Barjeel Art Foundation.
Shomali co-directed The Wanted 18, an acclaimed animated documentary that premiered at TIFF 2014 and won awards at Abu Dhabi, Carthage, Traverse City, and Al Jazeera film festivals. The film was Palestine’s official submission to the 88th Academy Awards.
Born in Kuwait in 1981, he holds a BSc in Architecture from Birzeit University and an MA in Animation from Bournemouth University. He is currently based in Ramallah, teaching at Birzeit University and serving as the Director General of the Palestinian Museum.
