SUMMARY:Launch & Streaming Premiere: mέta — Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation
DESCRIPTION:Imagine the world anew\, together. \n\n\n\nFree admission \n\n\n\nThrough a sequence of intensifying crises\, capitalism has already morphed into a dystopian postmodern\, hi-tech version of feudalism. Postcapitalism is\, thus\, already here.  \n\n\n\nThrough art and research\, argument and poetry\, mέta\, the Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation\, works to break with a dystopic present to imagine the world anew – to grasp our present historical moment so as to help radical progressive movements find a path from the emergent dismal postcapitalism to one worth fighting\, and living\, for. \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation (mέta) introduces itself to the public and the media\, presenting its aims\, its activities and its people from Greece and abroad\, in a hybrid event with artistic performances\, which will be live-streamed on Thursday 13 May at 8pm Athens time (UTC +3). The launching event was produced by mέta’s team and directed by Vassilis Koundouris and Violet Louise of Studio19st\, as well as the performances directed by Dimitris Zografakis and the introductory animation by Yokanima (Yorgos Karagiorgos).   \n\n\n\nmέta’s Advisory Board members sharing their views on postcapitalism: \n\n\n\nNoam Chomsky (Linguist\, philosopher\, MIT)\, Brian Eno (Musician and Visual Artist)\, iLiana Fokianaki (Founder and Artistic Director\, State of Concept Athens). \n\n\n\nJames K. They may turn out dystopic\, utopic or anything in between. Through art and research\, argument and poetry\, mέta\, the Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation\, works to break with a dystopic present to imagine the world anew – to grasp our present historical moment so as to help radical progressive movements find a path from the emergent dismal postcapitalism to one worth fighting\, and living\, for. \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation –mέta– was established in 2020 as a not-for-profit research organisation in order to facilitate the exchange of ideas in a radical direction and to support the pan-European movement DiEM25\, the Greek political party MeRA25\, and the Progressive International (all of which are represented in mέta’s Steering Committee). mέta seeks to employ a dual approach\, combining the academic/political/educational with the cultural and the artistic. mέta’s activities include research and publishing initiatives\, the organisation of festivals\, seminars\, workshops and events –academic and cultural/artistic alike– focusing on the political\, social\, economic\, ecological and cultural dimensions of the challenges we face at the national\, European\, and global level. Its current Steering Committee includes Danae Stratou (Chair)\, Professor Sissy Velissariou (Vice-Chair)\, Eleni Spetsioti (Secretary)\, Michael Hatzitheodorou (Treasurer)\, Ivana Nenadović and David Adler (members). More on its international Advisory Board may be found here. \n\n\n\nAddress: Mavrommateon 15\, 10434 Athens\, Greece \n\n\n\nhttp://metacpc.org

SUMMARY:Yanis Varoufakis interviews Omar Barghouti
DESCRIPTION:While the massacre in Gaza is ongoing\, and the repression of Palestinians everywhere is intensifying\, how can progressives show meaningful solidarity with those suffering from\, and struggling against\, Israel’s regime of occupation\, settler-colonialism and apartheid? Looking to a future worth fighting for\, is this the time for a SINGLE DEMOCRATIC STATE for Jews and Palestinians? Is the two-state solution the right objective for progressives or a formalisation of apartheid? To discuss these questions\, on Monday 24th May 2021 at 19.30BST\, 20.30 CET\, 21.30EET Yanis Varoufakis\, MeRA25 leader and DiEM25 co-founder\, will interview Omar Barghouti\, co-founder of the BDS movement for Palestinian rights (*)\, co-recipient of the 2017 Ghandi Peace Award. \n\n\n\n(*) BDS has emerged as a consensus movement that is increasingly recognized around the world\, by trade unions\, social movements\, racial and climate justice groups\, churches\, among others\, as the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom\, justice and equality. Instead of adopting a specific political solution\, it strategically focuses on ending international complicity in Israel’s system of oppression\, as was done in the struggle to end South African apartheid.
