SUMMARY:"A most surprising Anti-War Libertarian-Communist Manifesto"
DESCRIPTION:Reservations at 210.8847571 (10:00 με 16:00) \n\n\n\nThe boundaries of political imagination are also those of our struggles for an emancipated society. And nowhere also has the modern world given imagination so much liberty as in aspects of mass culture – not so in the sophisticated one\, though. \n\n\n\nFrom the realms of the entertainment industry\, often disguised as science fiction\, some inspirations spring up occasionally\, and they are worthy of our serious political thinking and action\, so that we bring back to Earth and our turbulent present the “futuristic visions” that a series like Star Trek placed somewhere in the infinite space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeing the most influential series of the sci-fi genre worldwide since the ‘60s\, Star Trek pioneered the abolition of racial and gender stereotypes on the screen. However\, at a closer analysis\, it proves to be an excellent guide so that we can envision an alternative societal organization\, beyond the present\, techno-feudalistic dystopia. \n\n\n\nThus\, the Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation (mέta) is inviting two of the most devoted trekkies in Greece\, Yanis Varoufakis and Mithridatis\, to present six Star Trek episodes each\, commenting on and discussing their political\, economic and philosophical content. \n\n\n\nThis most promising exchange of viewpoints between a music creator and an economist and politician\, on the basis of their shared love for Star Trek\, will take place live on Wednesday 23rd March 2022\, at 20:00\, in Trianon Cinema (21 Kodriktonos\, Athens\, 104 34). \n\n\n\nFree admission\, according to state covid measures. \n\n\n\nmέta team

SUMMARY:Launch & Streaming Premiere: mέta — Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation
DESCRIPTION:Imagine the world anew\, together. \n\n\n\nFree admission \n\n\n\nThrough a sequence of intensifying crises\, capitalism has already morphed into a dystopian postmodern\, hi-tech version of feudalism. Postcapitalism is\, thus\, already here.  \n\n\n\nThrough art and research\, argument and poetry\, mέta\, the Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation\, works to break with a dystopic present to imagine the world anew – to grasp our present historical moment so as to help radical progressive movements find a path from the emergent dismal postcapitalism to one worth fighting\, and living\, for. \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation (mέta) introduces itself to the public and the media\, presenting its aims\, its activities and its people from Greece and abroad\, in a hybrid event with artistic performances\, which will be live-streamed on Thursday 13 May at 8pm Athens time (UTC +3). They may turn out dystopic\, utopic or anything in between. Through art and research\, argument and poetry\, mέta\, the Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation\, works to break with a dystopic present to imagine the world anew – to grasp our present historical moment so as to help radical progressive movements find a path from the emergent dismal postcapitalism to one worth fighting\, and living\, for. \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation –mέta– was established in 2020 as a not-for-profit research organisation in order to facilitate the exchange of ideas in a radical direction and to support the pan-European movement DiEM25\, the Greek political party MeRA25\, and the Progressive International (all of which are represented in mέta’s Steering Committee). mέta seeks to employ a dual approach\, combining the academic/political/educational with the cultural and the artistic. mέta’s activities include research and publishing initiatives\, the organisation of festivals\, seminars\, workshops and events –academic and cultural/artistic alike– focusing on the political\, social\, economic\, ecological and cultural dimensions of the challenges we face at the national\, European\, and global level. Its current Steering Committee includes Danae Stratou (Chair)\, Professor Sissy Velissariou (Vice-Chair)\, Eleni Spetsioti (Secretary)\, Michael Hatzitheodorou (Treasurer)\, Ivana Nenadović and David Adler (members). More on its international Advisory Board may be found here. \n\n\n\nAddress: Mavrommateon 15\, 10434 Athens\, Greece \n\n\n\nhttp://metacpc.org

SUMMARY:Conservative Turn in Greece’s Crisis – The ideological TINA is not written in stone
DESCRIPTION:This presentation offers an overview of empirical data and its fluctuations over many years\, such as data on the crisis of institutions and political ideologies. Is Greek society’s conservative turn an unavoidable necessity\, or does the pandemic offer a starting point for change? \n\n\n\nPresentation:Yannis Mavris\, PolSci PhD & Public Issue (chair) \n\n\n\nIntroduction: Sissy Velissariou \n\n\n\nProfessor of English Literature\, University of Athens\, vice-chair of mέta’s Steering Committee\, member of MeRA25’s Political Secretariat \n\n\n\nHost: Kostas Raptis\, Press Officer\, mέta
